- Metabolic Balance: Conclusion
at Metabolic Balance it is less a diet in the traditional sense than a holistic nutritional program. It is tailored to the individual's metabolism and is based on the assumption that blood sugar fluctuations favor being overweight. The aim is to use an individualized diet to regulate, optimize and, if desired, reduce weight. Learn here if the concept of the metabolic diet makes sense.
What is Metabolic Balance
Developed the metabolic diet of nutritionist Dr. med. med. Wolf Funfack and the nutrition expert Silvia Bürkle in 2001. Based on 36 determined blood values and a query of personal preferences, intolerances and diseases, a computer program creates an individual nutrition plan. For example, if the values for calcium or iron are too low, high-content foods of these substances are put together. How exactly this compilation is generated is not publicly known. The goal is to provide the body with only the substances that it really needs through the Metabolic Balance Nutrition Plan. So the pounds should dwindle, health and vitality be increased.
Either you visit one of the certified metabolic balance supervisors for testing and planning, or have your family doctor take blood and take care of it online and by telephone from the headquarters in Isen.
This is how Metabolic Balance works
Metabolic Balance relies on the "glycemic load". That is, it is believed that one nowadays eat too many carbohydrates that cause the blood sugar levels to fluctuate. This can trigger food cravings and lead to overweight. Because carbohydrates are converted into the sugar type glucose. In a constant oversupply, the cells no longer rely on fat as an additional energy source, so it is not degraded, but stored.
The Metabolic Balance Nutrition Plan is limited to low glycemic index foods (low blood sugar levels). The concept relies on strict control of eating behavior. There are forbidden and allowed foods, the quantities are exactly prescribed.
In addition, there are a few rules:
- Three meals a day are allowed, at least five hours apart.
- A meal must not last more than 60 minutes and must be started with one to two bites of protein, so first the digestive enzymes are activated, the proteins split and the insulin production so delayed in time.
- A different kind of protein should be eaten per meal.
- After 9 pm, Metabolic Balance must not be eaten.
- In the course of the metabolic diet, 35 milliliters of water per kilogram of body weight should be drunk throughout the day. Tea and coffee are only available at or shortly after the meal.
- One apple a day is required.
The metabolic diet is made up of four phases:
Phase I - the discharge
The body is relieved and cleaned. This phase of Metabolic Balance takes two days. The intestine is completely emptied to avert food cravings, there are only light or mono foods such as potatoes, vegetables or rice.
Phase II - the changeover
It lasts at least two weeks. During this time you have to strictly stick to the food list in the Metabolic Balance Nutrition Plan. There are three low-carbohydrate, protein-rich foods (fish, lean meat, egg, dairy products and vegetables). The quantities are very limited.
Phase III - the relaxed transition phase
The food list is being expanded. In this phase of Metabolic Balance again more carbohydrates are allowed (rice, noodles). There are cheat days, where one must ignore the strict quantity specifications.
Phase IV - the maintenance phase
Based on the experiences from the previous three phases, participants now experiment themselves, which is good for them. They are slowly breaking away from the metabolic balance plan but retaining their newly learned dietary habits.
That brings Metabolic Balance
With Metabolic Balance can be quite decrease. However, this happens because of the lower total calorie intake per day. In principle, it is nothing more than a calorie-reduced mixed diet with an increased protein content. Studies show that losing weight is not primarily due to the omission or increased intake of certain nutrients, but to strict adherence to nutritional requirements.
The information provided by the providers is based on the rules of the German Society for Nutrition and current findings in diet research. Positive is the ongoing consultation with Metabolic Balance, if their quality also strongly depends on the competence of the respective consultant.
Risks of Metabolic Balance
Timing and cooking with the family (or other participants) can be difficult with Metabolic Balance because of the strict, individually different diet plan. Costs for special foods are not incurred, but the initial blood analysis and the accompanying consultation amount to at least 300 euros.
The time required, especially during the second phase, is high at Metabolic Balance, as you have to buy and weigh.
Moreover, it is questionable and scientifically unproven that diet plans can be made based on a blood analysis. Also, foods with low glycemic index have a positive effect on weight, is not clearly detectable.
The strict regulations can quickly lead to failures and promote the yo-yo effect.

Fasting - that's it!
For days nothing biting? That sounds like stomach growls and renunciation. In fact, more and more people voluntarily abstain from eating for a while - and not just during Lent. With this they hope not only to get rid of one or two bacon rolls, but above all to do something for their health. Find out what fasting can actually do.

Of course you lose weight if you do not eat for days. But a lot of it is water. Fat deposits are indeed nibbled - two to three kilos are in a fasting week in it. However, the body switches to low flame and then comes out with less food. Most of the figure brings fasting when you use it, then consume more consciously. Anyone who moves while fasting loses more fat and less muscle mass.

Normalized sugar levels
Fasting can do a small miracle in type 2 diabetes. It affects the blood sugar metabolism. Among other things, the body cells become more sensitive to insulin again. Some diabetics can reduce their medications after a fasting cure or even omit them altogether. But beware: Sick people, especially diabetics, should fast only under medical supervision!

Protection for the heart
In addition to the blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels and blood pressure also drop during fasting - and luckily over the long term. This reduces the risk of calcified vessels, heart attack and stroke. A key role in these phenomena plays the belly fat. It produces messenger substances that adversely affect the metabolism. If the fat deposits in the middle of the body disappear, fewer messenger substances are also produced.

During fasting, some pain patients can significantly reduce their painkillers. One possible explanation: At the beginning of fasting, the cortisol level increases. The hormone acts like an endogenous analgesic.

Fasting in cancer
Simply starve the tumor while fasting? Sounds good, but does not work, and can even be life threatening! Many cancer patients are decreasing dramatically anyway. The situation is different with short-term fasting just before chemotherapy: it works better and has fewer side effects. The reason: Healthy body cells slow down their metabolism during fasting and thus absorb less toxin. For cancer cells, the opposite is true. At least that shows tests on mice.

Whether osteoarthritis, gout or rheumatism: The joints also benefit from a fasting cure. In addition to the aforementioned analgesic effect, fasting also reduces inflammatory processes in the body. One reason for this is the absence of animal fats. The arachidonic acids contained therein otherwise promote inflammation. The same applies to all proteins that enter the body at every meal and allow the number of white blood cells in the blood to rise measurably.

Effective immune defense
Most pathogens enter the body through food. Therefore, the intestine is the body part with the most active immune defense. By abstaining from food, significantly fewer pathogens are taken during fasting. This relieves the immune system and can have a positive effect on its effectiveness.

If you are hungry, you are in a bad mood. This is not true when fasting - on the contrary! On the one hand, the feeling of hunger disappears when the intestine is emptied. On the other hand, fasting seems to raise the level of the happiness hormone serotonin - it is broken down more slowly than usual. It therefore acts like a natural antidepressant. The mood is rising. For some, this pleasing effect will last longer.

Stubborn is the conviction that those who fast, be body freed of harmful slags. This is not scientifically sustainable - the human body is a detoxification genius anyway. The kidneys, liver and digestive tract remove or neutralize most of the poisons within a few hours. So the body does not accumulate cinders that need to be disposed of during fasting.

For whom fasting is taboo
Anyone who is ill should only fast under medical supervision. For some people fasting is even quite taboo. These include children, pregnant women, breastfeeding and old people - and those who are underweight or even anorexic anyway. Also, people with heart, liver and kidney disease. Even those who suffer from other serious illnesses such as cancer should never fast (with the exception of short and just before chemotherapy).
Metabolic Balance: Conclusion
With Metabolic Balance it is possible to lose weight. However, the concept is difficult to carry out in everyday life. The strict requirements and long breaks between meals require great discipline. The program is expensive and does not stand up to a nutritional review. who Metabolic Balance still want to try, must bring time, money and discipline.
